Personal Narrative: My First Driving

Improved Essays
When most teenagers get to the age when they can finally drive they usually feel ecstatic. Being able to drive has a sense of feeling independent and mature. But for me, all I felt was fear and dread.

After completing Drivers Ed and obtaining my learner's permit from the DMV, it was finally time for my first driving lesson. I was nonstop googling how to prepare and what to expect but everything I read only added to my nerves. Everyone kept telling me, "Oh you'll do great!" and, "It's really easy!" But nevertheless, it only made my anxiety worse. On the morning of my lesson I couldn’t eat or sleep, I felt physically sick. I knew I was probably overreacting but I couldn't help my nerves.

My driving instructor showed up and knocked on the door 45 minutes earlier than expected. I thought I had more time to calm down but the second I heard the knocking I started shaking. She introduced herself as we made our way to her car and

The car felt forced and it felt really hard to control. I felt like crying because everything I did rough and jerky that at this point even my instructor was concerned on what was happening. She seemed to have sensed my distress as she requested that I try to pull over and park to calm down for a minute. As I pulled next to the curb and put in car in park she told me to pull up the emergency brake. But when I went to do that, we both discovered that it was already up. I immediately started to panic and almost started crying again because I thought that I had ruined her car. I wasn’t really aware that the break was up to begin with since I have never driven a car before. My instructor immediately started to console telling me that, “It isn’t your fault, I didn’t tell you to release it.” and, “It’s your first time driving, you wouldn’t have known, everyone has driven with the emergency brake on at one point

Friday was the big test day. When I entered the classroom, I overheard some of my peers lament about how tired they were from staying up so late trying to study. I was confident that I would do great, and yet a small part of me was still nervous that I would fail. When our instructor handed out the tests only the sound of pencil scratching paper could be heard. When we completed our tests we were allowed to leave, so when I finished mine I was out in a flash.…

When I ride it's like the earth stops at every corner so I can check to make sure a, loud, car isn't roaring towards me. It's like that feeling in your chest that tells you that everything is going to be ok, yet your mind is screaming at you that it won't be. I ride because I was thought that you need to be active in life, but it was never about the one hour of activity time we are supposed to have growing up. it was much more than that. I didn't need help to ride, I needed help to face down my enemies, or conquer my dreams.…

My instinct urged me that I cannot do it. Taking a moment to reflect on the journey, I had overcome my fear of failure. Thinking of all the positive accomplishments I have made, in return of making the experience positive. While waiting I so happen to lose track of time until I hear the car door open and to hear the words “I want you to drive to the end of the street, reverse all the way back here, and do the parallel parking before we proceed onto the road test”. As I approach the parallel parking bay, I think to myself, it is best to get it over with rather than to drag it out any further.…

Personal Narrative rough draft : Car accident It was early in April of 2016, sunny and beautiful, the day was sure to be full of excitement and energy as student council speeches are due and the final trimester of the year was slowly coming to an end. I woke up that morning to my mother blissfully waking me up with my light turning on and her sweet beautiful voice saying “Wake up, Joey,” I slowly rolled out of bed and stumbled into the shower trying hopelessly to escape the morning and the horrible sensations of waking up early on a Wednesday. As the warm water rushed over me I rehearsed in my head how I would present my student council speech to my teacher. Little did I know how different it would actually be that day.…

After five hours under Mrs. Gonzalez’s 1997 Plymouth, my hands were so dirty I had to wash them ten times just to see my fingernails again. She was a familiar face around the shop, given that neighborhood thieves had routinely targeted her car. This time, though, they had gone too far. Someone had crawled underneath the car and cut out the valuable catalytic converter, and she couldn’t afford a replacement. When I looked at her and said, “That’ll be $563,” her face turned pale.…

The alarm goes off at 8:15 AM like every morning. I roll out of bed, shower, slap on some sunscreen, put on my uniform, and head to work. Getting there, of course, is simple. I hop in the car, punch the button to start the engine, put the windows down to feel the summer breeze, plug in my phone to blast my go-to driving playlist, and I’m ready. Before I set off to lifeguard, a voice reminds me of what my grandma said when I first began driving, “I’m not afraid of you driving, I’m afraid of other drivers.”…

My first car was something that I greatly was looking forward to getting as a child and my interest in getting one grew, as the days got closer to my sixteenth birthday. The first car I owned was a Automatic Black 2004 Ford f-150 truck, which I discovered on a website called Craigslist. It was priced at five thousand nine hundred dollars with only eighty-four thousand miles on it, which in my case was great considering that I could only afford a seven thousand dollar car. The truck came with all manual locks and windows and also had a small amount of hail damage that could really only be seen at a certain angle. But even with reasonable price on the truck I still attempted to negotiate for an even lower price to further my luck.…

It looks like his or her desires are prioritized over the law, which is a set of rules that each citizen has come into an agreement with to obey once they have obtained their licence. The ability to drive is something that citizens tend to misuse nowadays, especially in their teenage to young adult years, that is, 16 to 21. Driving is not an obligation, but a privilege that many do not recognize.…

Being part of the generation who grew up watching Fast and the Furious films has always made me want to drive a car. At that time I knew I still had a while before I could drive, but any chance I got to be in the driver seat I would. My first time I ever got behind the wheel was right after I watch the fast and the furious in 2001. It was during the summer, my mom was washing her car and according to her “I accidently locked myself inside and somehow I managed to turn the car on and started backing up the car.” My mom was so scared she started yelling “put the car on park” “put the car on park” but I had no clue what she meant.…
