Personal Narrative: My Journey To West Washington United Methodist Church

Decent Essays
I have been going to West Washington United Methodist Church since I was about five years old. Because of this, I don't remember a time when I didn't know about God and Jesus. Words can't do justice to how much this church has had on my life. The congregation at this church has become a second family to me. I have been fostered in the basics of my faith and poured into by the people who go there. There are many people in the United Methodist Church that have mentored me and shaped who I am today. Another way that the United Methodist Church has had an impact on my life is through youth activities and praise bands.
Being in the youth group grew my heart for service and gave me something to look forward to every week when school was rough. I

This summer, my dad, older sister, and I flew to South Carolina for debate nationals. Since we had a few days before the tournament, we decided to do a little sightseeing. On Sunday, we visited two churches in Atlanta, Georgia. We first went to the Ebenezer Baptist Church, which is a church housed inside the “real” church that Martin Luther King Jr. had served in. The service was very lively, consisting of clapping, singing, and dancing.…

My religious community has played a profound role on my development as an adult, the three guiding principals of Zoroastrianism: "Good Thoughts, Good Deeds, and Good Words" guide my actions daily. Being part of such a small community while heightening my sense of being has also made me more appreciative and understanding of other cultures & groups. For me understanding others has become a key component in understanding myself. My community has also enabled me to be a better communicator- as often times questions are asked regarding my ethnicity and religion where I can act as a spokesperson for the…

My personal narrative essay is about my transfer from Bible Baptist to Savannah Christian and my feelings towards the process of transferring and the first day at Savannah Christian. Overall the transfer was better than I presumed it would be because I sustained a better education than I did at Bible Baptist. The transfer taught me that sometimes change is for the greater good. If I had the ability to go back in time and tell my future self-something about this situation it would be not to be nervous just breathe. Finding out I was going to a new school could be compared to when I found out my first fish had died, heartbreaking.…

My life before my conversion consisted mainly of growing up in a Southern Baptist Church. Throughout my life I have heard the gospel countless times, but never accepted it as absolute truth to follow. Instead, my life until college was characterized by performing a lot of religious activity such as youth groups, church camps, and going to church on Sundays. I was in a tireless attempt to live out a religion that proved I was good enough to be declared righteous before God. It was a restless attempt to be whatever everyone else want me to be.…

Sheryl Sandberg revolutionized the word when she defined leadership as: “making others better as result of your presence and making sure that impact lasts in your absence.” Many factors and elements have shaped my personal growth, including church, family, and school, but what all of those elements have in common is that they exhibited one of the pillars that I should strive to model: Leadership, Character, Service, and Scholarship. All of these pillars were demonstrated by priceless role models in my life; without them I would not be the person I am today. I intend to demonstrate the pillars that my role models demonstrated me in college and in adult life.…

One of the most difficult things I have ever done is decide to serve a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. At age 18, I found myself at the point of graduating high school, with a mind and heart set on the future. What most worried me was getting a good education, and preparing myself to have a family. From a very young age, serving a mission was always part of my plans, and I understood perfectly that serving one would help me to reach my goals for the future, although as I came closer and closer to the time for me to leave on a mission, questions crossed my mind. What will I miss during these two years?…

My first church leaders’ interview was with Pastor Joe Gabbard. Pastor Joe is the Family Pastor at Cornerstone Church in Blue Springs, Missouri and has been in full-time ministry for over 14 years. I started the interview asking Pastor Joe in what ways has his work changed over the years He said “I started in student ministry and primarily focused on ministering to the students directly to students: attending school functions, active on campus, visiting and meeting one-on-one, holding youth outreaches, camps, and activities throughout the year. As I’ve developed a broader ministry theme, I’ve continued to implement outreaches and activities, but I focus more on developing a team of leaders who extend the personal touch of ministry to students.” Since he has changed the focus of his ministry, I asked him what activities or processes have you started doing or stopped doing?…

On August 26, 2005, I gave my life to Christ, and it was the start of a whole new chapter of my journey. I still remember that night vividly in my head. The feelings of excitement, joy, and love were very tangible in my heart. My mom and dad were both sitting beside me on my bed while I was told the importance of this decision and how my life would never be the same. Even at 5 years old, I was aware of my decision to follow Jesus and accept him into my heart.…

During my childhood and lower teens, I was very involved in church. I would go to every event or meeting put on by our church.
