Personal Narrative: My Mother

Improved Essays
My mother, Margaret, is a hard working, dedicated individual. She is a Home Health Aid, she goes to elder people houses and takes care of them for a set number of hours. This shows dedication because she works in the morning, evenings, and nights. She has had this job for about 5-6 years and the same clients for just as long. My mother used to work on the weekends but that was placing her under a lot of stress. At the start of the new year she does income taxes. From our home for about 50 people that increases every year. Which too requires a fair amount of time. By working as a Home Health Aid, my mother has demonstrated dedication, love, and hard work.

In that same year, she went to jail for 2 years, for robbing a hot dog restaurant. She could have avoided going to jail by giving up the name of the guys she was with. But, when the judge asked her to give the name of the men she was with. She replied " I'm not gonna tell you shit", to which the judge responded "Since you want to be a smartass, you can go to the juvenile detention center...". I've asked my mother if she could go back in time and give the judge the names the guys she was with and she said no. She told me that if she haven't gone to jail then I would have never been born and that becoming a mother influenced her to get her life together. While in jail she met some unique people. My mother has told me that her cellmate, Cynthia was her name, would insert Bobby pins into her arms because of her nightmares. My mother told me that the reason for Cynthia for being there was because Cynthia, her boyfriend, and two of …show more content…
Here's to show how hardworking she is. She has to wake up early in the morning on Monday to place her disabled daughter, Verbon, onto the school bus for school. Then, wake up my four little sisters so she can do their hair and take them to school. She accomplishes this feat before 9:00 AM. Upon returning home she has to get ready to go to work before 10 O'clock. My mother does this five times a week for a whole academic school with the exception of holidays. This shows how hard working she is because it's difficult to do the hair of four girls before 9 AM. They like to fall asleep again and fight with each other. Or they would ruin their hair by running around and playing. My mothers' favorite color is beige and she likes pretty much all the shows on HGTV. She likes them so much that it inspired her to take sponges dip them in paint and threw them at the walls of her house. Most recently my mother has painted, as well as the change the knobs for the cabinets which she is still working with. Another side quest she performed last week she cleaned out the garage which was fill with blocks of wood, dirty and trash. It took her 8 hours to clean it and upon finishing the cleaning process she pushed an 300 pound bar across the ground into the garage. When January comes my mother will start doing taxes. Tax season is the most stressful time of the year for my mother, because she has to schedule when people can come to her house so that she can do

Mom was small, a slight 110 pounds but through my eyes, she was large, even after my height surpassed hers. To this day, she would argue that she weighed only 100. Her strong presence claimed her space, and anyone else's that she cared to. Being right was of utmost importance to her, and she made sure always to have the last word. Overbearing, and overprotective of me, her only child, she usually controlled every situation, regardless of how trivial.…

I was born in San Francisco to a single mother, and I have never known anything different. My mother provided an incredible life for me, for which I am eternally grateful. At the age of eleven my mother decided it would be financially best to relocate to Casper, Wyoming, where she would have the help of her family to raise me. Although the move was extremely difficult for both of seeing that we created friendships and bonds with people that we would no longer see as often, my mother has never made a decision she didn’t think was best for both of us. My mother always puts my well-being first which has given me my love of helping others.…

In most cases, a woman being a stay at home mother was a sign of how well the family was doing financially. If the woman was at home all day, it showed that they had money. If the woman of the household was working outside of home, it most likely meant that they were very poor. According to studies by Ben Wattenberg, only 6% of women worked outside of home in 1900 (Wattenberg). According to Stanley Lebergott, Women’s factory earnings ran from only $2-$3 per day, which was about 40% lower than what men were making at the time (Lebergott).…

I hate Christmas because nothing is phenomenal. I am not being facetious. I assume that Santa was busy and remiss when he forgot to give me a Christmas gift. Every time I saw other children play with their new toys by looking through the translucent window, I consternated about Christmas, and felt disconsolate. It is a paradox that a rich country should be so many poor people.…

When I first learned of this assignment my first thought was to interview my mom. She is the one person in my life I am closest to. Since we are only twenty three years apart, I thought it would be best to focus on her life up to the point where she decided to have kids. Though I knew most of what she told me it was still nice to just sit and talk about her life experiences. My mother was born to older parents and was the youngest of three children.…

My mother and I did not share a typical mother/daughter relationship. There was a time when we would not even speak and years would pass before I would even see her again. However, I would always see her when I looked into the mirror, since I looked just like her. I would hear her laugh because our laughs were identical, and small details we shared would remind me of the relationship I was missing, the relationship I felt everyone took advantage of. During my senior year all hope of a possible reconciliation would be lost.…

I decided to interview my mom for this paper because she has had a significant role in my upbringing and she means a lot to me. Since my mom and I are very close, like best friend status, I already knew a lot about her which made the interviewing process much easier. My mom and I share a lot of the same views on many issues but have differing views on a few, especially under the diversity category. I live at home with my mom and father and so I see my mom everyday which is one reason why our viewpoints are similar, so we can both avoid cognitive dissonance and it makes the day to day living more manageable.…
