Personal Narrative: What I Learned And Relearned

Decent Essays
Throughout this semester I have learned and relearned many things. For an example, I have learned about commas, but this is the first time I completely understood and know how to use them. Another example, is I have always known that plagiarism is illegal, but in high school they only wanted the source next to the information I use. In English this semester, I have learned the correct way of citing my information. I have used these knew skills in another class of mine and as well in this class. While writing the papers that were assigned I was able to cite my information correctly and not get marked for it. I was also able to use commas the correct way for the most part. I have used some of the resources provided to me such as financial aid and scholarships, the writing center, the student help desk, the library, and the counseling center. …show more content…
I have many ways of study skills such as, the syllabus, highlighting in color, memory, note taking, and teaching others. While studying I have a hard time staying focused because I think I know the information that is needed to know, but when the test comes around I really did not know the information well enough. With this being said, I have come to the fact that I need to take notes and highlight the information that I think will be on the test and quiz myself on it. Throughout this semester it was hard coming from a high school student to a college student it was so different. The beginning was tough on me, but when I got used to it, it is finally coming along and I believe next semester will be a little easier. Meaning I will not have to adjust to become a college student because I already have an idea on how it is going to be

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

The first time, I enrolled in this class, I felt excited knowing this class would help on my grammar, so I can become a better writer. My first thought that cross my mind was this was going to be easy and it was. My last experienced with writing and English was okay because I mainly get a B or a C, but rarely I would get an A. I always been having trouble with grammars. My high school English teachers taught us about grammars and how to become a better writer. It was similar to what you had taught us in class because we always learned about grammar out of a book and we got tested after we been practice.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

Writing I learned an abounding amount of things that have shaped how I write and shaped the way I think about things. In my English classes I grew as a student and writer through the three units we did, music, movies and games. In the music unit I learned an abundance of things. One thing in particular that was a big milestone for me was taking something small and pulling the meaning out of it. It was hard for me at first to write an entire essay on a single song.…

Three Things I Learned In a world full of sensationalized news stories, propaganda, and a need and greed for ratings, isn’t better to skip watching the news? In the document, “What is a Journalist”, it seems that a journalist should have a heart and integrity. Then upon reading, “How Journalists Write”, it is very obvious, that journalists are forced to sensationalize. Look at Fox news and the Ebola scare.…

Life Lesson The author of the American Idol, Leah LaBelle, once said, “Work hard for what you want because it won 't come to you without a fight. You have to be strong and courageous and know that you can do anything you put your mind to. If somebody puts you down or criticizes you, just keep on believing in yourself and turn it into something positive.” I like this quote because it encourages me as a deaf woman who still struggles and fights with many issues. I was born deaf and grew up having trouble communicating.…

When I started this class, I thought it would be easy. Writing is one thing I have always done quite well, and I thought I did not have anything else to improve upon. I was wrong. In the beginning of this class we were told to set goals for ourselves; however, my goals manifested in earnest after my completion of the first paper. After the Arguing a position paper, it became quite clear that my time management skills were sorely insufficient.…

The one time that I learned and impacted my life drastically was the first year that I moved to the U.S. I learned to talk and I learned to read. People still judge the way I spell, say, or pronounce, a certain word. It used to bother me how others could say “Karen can you say refrigerator” or another word that they knew I struggled to say. As I’ve gotten older I have realized that I was actually ahead of the class by being bilingual. I learned more than they did by the the end of my second grade year.…
