When I was younger I always seemed to get into trouble. I found school and home really boring so I did things to make it more exciting. I disobeyed everyone who though they were in charge of me. No one can tell me what to do. My grades were terrible and my social life was not any better. No one liked me because of all the trouble I got in, but I was perfectly fine with that. I wasn’t good at anything but getting in trouble. Dumb and reckless. There were some kids that really got on my nerves. Even during those rare moments in school when I actually tried with work they just got all up in my business and basically did it for me. No one believed in me, not even my own parents. I’m different, not like any other kids. I guess my parents couldn’t …show more content…
“What kind of trouble have you been gettin’ in?” “Yelling at teachers, fighting, cheating, all that fun stuff.” After that we started to hang out a lot more. Ditching school together, we had some fun times.
But as we got older and towards the time of adulthood we had to think of what we were going to do in life. No job would hire us because of our background. The only thing we could of was joining the military. When we turned 18 we had to enter the draft which was a drawing of men who had to go to war.
Soon after Hitler rose to power we got drafted. Boot camp was intense, they needed us to stay tough and fit when we shipped out to France.
“We’re almost there.” I said to Jack on the plane ride to France
“I’m nervous, we could die out here”
“I know I know but it’s not like anyone cares about us back home so it won’t matter if we die out here” “That’s true, I just don’t wanna die in

The only instruction we had was to follow our commander. He led us into the tents we were going to stay in when we weren’t on the battlefield. They were the biggest tents I’ve ever seen in my life. Most of them could house 50 people with ease. There were tents where you can eat, sleep, and just hang out with friends. It was nice while it lasted but sooner or later all hell is going to break loose.
¨I think I’m starting to like this place more than I thought” I said to Billy
“Ya I don’t mind it either, but soon things are gonna start getting real and rough”
“Ya ya I know, but we might as well be happy while it lasts”
Two nights later chaos struck. There were people running everywhere, there was shouting, I had zero clue what was going on or what time it was. I’m guessing it was around one or two in the morning.
General McSmith was screaming at us to get all our gear.
“Billy what do we do?”
“I don’t know just stay with our platoon and stay alive we need each other out here”
The next thing we know there were more bombs falling into our camp, more yelling, more chaos. I started to get scared about if I was going to live or not. There we thunderous booms from the dropping mortar shells from the

African-American not only faced injustices in everyday society but also in the military. During the commencement of World War I, a large portion of the African-American community saw the war as a chance to demonstrate their patriotism and to take their place as equal citizen in the United States (Williams OL). My dearest family, Shall I not return, I would like you to have my last words, my last thoughts, and to know what it is really like here. The press seems to glorify things, to inspire men I presume. Our unit arrived to the front 5 weeks ago, yet life is already a living hell. When we arrived, it was pouring rain, and the men and I were knee deep in a brown pool of water, muck and other things I care not to think of. The air reeks of decay and waste, corpses are everywhere; of men, cows, and rats.…
