Metaphors About Me

Being a student can be very stressful and hard at times, but it also can be very exciting. I as a student am like a tree growing. Sometimes the tree struggles to grow when it doesn't have water or sun. I struggle as a student sometimes just like the tree struggles to grow. We also do have times where we don't struggle because we understand whats going on or like the tree we have enough water and sun to grow. Me as a student is a little difficult because I do have hard time with certain things. I am a very visual learner. It is a lot easier for me to do something when I have a example or when someone shows me how to do it. Just like a tree growing, they have a hard time growing without water so their branches can’t grow.

The reason why I don't like writing so much is because I hate starting the first paragraph in the essay. It is very hard for me. I do really good writing when I get feedback because it helps me get better as a writer. There is this one paper I wrote in my intro to psychology class that I was very proud of. It sounded very good and my words were typed correctly. The plus side of that writing is that I also got a good grade. I as a writer am like a old car. Why I compare myself to a old car is because at first it’s a little rusty, but once it starts running for a little bit it gets better and is like brand new. That’s how I feel when I'm writing. At first it’s a little tough, but when I get into my essay it gets a lot better. Always starting the essay is really hard for me, but then it gets easier. That’s how I feel about myself as a writer. My future will be like a Ferris wheel because the view will always be great, but there might still be loops that you have to go through and they could be tough, it feels great to be in college. I love the feeling that I'm working towards something that I always wanted to do. I hope to learn a lot of new things that I have never learned before. I also hope that it helps me change in a good way. That’s how I feel about my future and hope I can reach my

In order to understand disability prejudices, we must grasp and understanding of Cresswell notion of “out-of-place-metaphors”. Since millennium, people have been making generalizations about people with disabilities, and a variety of others things including health and the body. Cresswell notion of “out-of-place-metaphors” help us understand the hidden truth behind the metaphors that are being used to describe individuals who are labeled disabled and experiencing other forms of representation. These metaphors were often used to exclude individuals from those who are ‘able’ in society. Throughout this paper I’ll be exploring Cresswell work and Schweik early history of the “ugly laws”.…

Would you ever think someone would name their kid after the phrase priest town? Well I didn’t think so until I found out Preston means priest town. But my parents didn’t even know what the name Preston meant. My mom just liked the name because it sounded good with Lawson and my older sister's name, Madison. My middle name - Ray came from my dad because his middle name is Ray and my papaw on my dad's side was named Ray.…

Joey Serrano: Chapter 6: Metaphors, Symbol, and Analogy / Metaphor as Cognitive Should it not be argued that we need to even look past the sentence and rather at the whole piece to completely understand the significance of a metaphor? When talking about Ricœur’s emphasis on metaphor, Stiver says that “Metaphor has long been recognized as a literary device that enables us to depict well-known things in striking and focused ways; in other words, metaphor adorns what we already know in dashing new clothes Philosophically speaking, what is important about metaphor is that it can do more than embellish; it can direct us to what we have never seen before” (Stiver 117). Because metaphor uses what we already know in a different way, the reader should…

I never considered myself to be an excellent writer but still thought I wrote well enough to get my point across without confusing the reader too much. However, any confidence that I had in my writing skills was lost for a short time when I had to write my first timed essay in school. Luckily, the timed essay assignment also helped me see that I needed to work on my writing and, as a result, actually turned out to be a more positive experience rather than a negative one. It was just another regular school day that was near its end, and I had one more class to go to before everyone was released to go home.…

I believe that I have the potential to be a good writer, as I wrote a seven-page research paper on the way children are becoming more intelligent with the use of the internet, as they have the ability to look up an answer to a question they do not know anytime of the day. I had an easy time writing the paper because we went over everything that needed to be in it beginning with an attention grabbing thesis and ending with a powerful conclusion. I flew through writing the paper, which made me confident that I was going to get a good grade (and I did), it made me feel that I had improved my writing abilities. I also had to write an analytical paper comparing Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to a modern day problem in society. It was more difficult to write compared to the research paper because I had to compare it to a difficult read.…

Project #1: Literacy Narrative I remember walking across the lawn from our tiny add on classroom, up the stairs, and into the second grade class. Walking to my assigned desk directly in front of the window, I sat down in front of my best friend. Sometimes, sleepy and tired, I stared at the giant oak tree in our school yard and watching the clouds move. My first experience with writing was in fourth grade.…

I did not know how to start or how to begin writing something unique. On the second time working on it, I just thought Before I turned my final draft in, I was nervous if I’ll get a good grade or not. My writing career has had all four of the Four Basics in it. When I was younger, reading was fun to me, so when someone would read to me or if someone was just reading out loud, I would listen. This gave me exposure to writing and made me want to write a little. Motivation was not hard for me because writing was just not my thing. Practice was something that hardly ever happened though.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

Like I previously stated I learned how to do many things with my writing this semester. The first essay we wrote, a narrative, was probably my favorite essay to write. Although it was my favorite, it was definitely not my best. I wrote my essay and felt like it was complete and worthy to turn in. Little did I know that was not the case.…

I was not an excellent writer at the beginning of the school year, but I can gladly say now that I have inherited more writing skills that I will benefit from in the future. One of those skills is being able to reflect on every angle on my topic to allow me to organize my ideas accurately. This skill is beneficial to learn, for it helped with my report essay to acquire the focus of my paper more clearly. Moreover, this skill helped me write papers in my other classes more easily and efficiently. Likewise, my voice can be read strongly throughout the personal narrative essay, because the passion I had for my topic was an emotional one.…
