Everyone has traits that are unique to them,you know, traits that people can call their own. In the novel “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton there are many characters,each with their own personalities and traits. The Curtis brothers,Dallas Winston, Johnny Cade, they each have a certain aspect about themselves that define them from each other character in their own way. Sodapop Curtis specifically is smart, athletic and hardworking. He’s a person who cares for both his friends and family alike. These,along with many more traits, make Sodapop the kind of person we both see and read about in “The Outsiders.”
As the middle child of the Curtis brothers Sodapop possesses many traits about him that add layers to both his personality and to his character. His athleticism is a good example of of his personality. In the novel Sodapop said he “... fought for fun…” (Hinton pg. 117), that he enjoys fighting to blow off steam and to just enjoy himself and have some fun. Later in the story he is even said to “...drag race or dancing…” (Hinton pg. 8) which just comes to show how energetic and athletic he can be.Besides having fun we learn that the Curtis brothers don’t have any parents left. Aside from Darry, Sodapop has also contributed for the sake of his family.

There are instances throughout the story that give us little hints as to show just how smart Sodapop really is. During an argument between Darry and Ponyboy Sodapop refuses to choose sides because he said he can “... see both sides.” (Hinton pg. 149) It takes at least some brains to understand both sides of an argument.
