What do you think your future will look like when you get older? Will you think about your future family? Or achieving your dream job? How about when you retire? What will you do when you can no longer take care of yourself? Who will? This escalated quickly didn’t it. At some point in our life we will have to face the decision of who will be there for us when we are no longer there. Retirement homes will most likely be your last choice but at the end is necessary. Hopefully the nursing home of your choosing will have many games and activities, friendly staffing, and will trustingly leave you to daydream about your glory days. But what if that is not the case? What if you end up in a horrible assisted living facility that doesn’t let you live independently. How do we resolve this problem? To enrich the lives of the residents today and future residents, we need to come up with different staffing techniques, policies, technology and activities. We also need to enhance daily living experiences to something more efficient, exciting and relevant to that specific resident if we really want to succeed in enriching the lives of elderly people in assisted living facilities. With numbers continuing to increase, we can only expect to see different trends and styles of assisted living and options that are broadening. We now have options that suite cultural needs, continuing education so the residents can still grow, and now it has reached an economical standpoint where people can make such housing more cost-effective.
