The ownership of guns in the US has been a controversial issue for ages. Huge debates have been staged in numerous states striving to conclude whether people should be allowed to own guns or not. In fact, more arguments are emerging due to the increased insecurity issues, massacres, and rampant killings that occur in schools, public places, and homes due to private ownership of guns. However, those who support the private possession of guns also argue that it is a critical weapon for self defense. Nonetheless, I would like to argue that gun possession should be controlled and that no individual should be allowed to own private gun unless there are justified reasons to do that as is the case with VIPs (Wuest 112).
Statistics has it that the US has 88.8 guns in every 100 people. This means that almost 270,000,000 people in the country are in possession of guns. Thus, the country registers the highest number of people with firearms, a situation that actually puts everyone at risk due to increased insecurity promoted by gun possession.
