The term place can have several different meanings in geography. It is often thought of as a location of a town, city, or region on the Earth’s surface. More specifically, place can define the unique characteristics of a certain location whether it have a very significant meaning to you or no meaning at all. Places not only includes visual characteristics and features of a location but also the associations and feelings that come over us when we are reminded of it or go there. Place and landscapes are the most significant impacts of our life. As Grieder and Garkovich said, “They represent who we were, who we are, and who we hope to be” as well as our past experiences, current struggles, and future aspirations.
Fuller grounds her telling of Colton H. Bryant and the “Wyoming land that grew him.” Throughout Colton’s life growing up in Wyoming he found out that his experiences had a great impact on shaping him into the person he is today. From the Great Plains to the Rocky Mountains and everything in between Colton has some significance of that in his life. In this poem, throughout it is shown that although there are scars and bad things that have happened in the past to the land and to their ancestors, the people that are there now are proud. The first line of the poem is as follows; “Proud of a legacy built on rotten carcasses”. This first line states that although there were some tough times in the past and that life may not have always been the best, the people that are there now are accepting what happened and while remembering, what their ancestors did for the land and for them in the past, they are moving
