This time is known as the Diaspora which means “dispersion or scattering”. Israelites later regained self-rule only to lose it again to the Romans in 63 B.C., but though life was peaceful and Jews flourished they sought independence and revolted twice against the Romans. The first rebellion led to the destruction of the temple in 70 A.D. which ended temple worship and became known as Tisha B’av which is considered by many to be the worst trauma in Jewish history. The second rebellion led to hundred of thousands of Jews being killed and the rest being banished from Jerusalem. After that a period of peace known as the golden age settled in during 1000 AD only to be roughly followed by the crusades. The crusades massacred Jews
