While Greece consisted of several small city-states due to the geography, Rome was made up of a single larger city-state. Greece was surrounded by water (the Aegean and Ionian seas) which impacted the political set up. Athens prohibited women from becoming citizens or having any rights, whereas Roman women were allowed citizenship. Also in the Athenian democracy, officers were chosen by lot in order to give the less wealthy a more equalized chance at being elected. Religiously, both Greece and Rome were polytheistic. Greece and Rome also consisted of many of the same gods and goddesses. This is due to the taking over of Greece by the Romans. Upon taking over Greece, Romans also added some of the Greek’s religious qualities to their own religion.
