Monday, February 12 I visit Portside Montessori child care. I interviewed co-owner and co-director of the facility Mrs. Smith. She said that ‘ their staffs’ job is to create a safe place for children and prevent any injuries and prevent spreading any illnesses as much as possible, however accidents are happens’
According to director ‘it depends on a condition of a child what would they do if a child gets hurt or become sick’. If a child, for example, falls and he or she gets a bruise or small cuts (if it’s not serious), the staff first comfort the child and apply first aid, writes an accident report (which at the end of the day, during pick up, will be shown to parents to sing up. And one copy of the accident report will be saved in the child care and another will be given to a parent). Then the staff will call parent to just let them know what happened.

Then staff will separate the sick child from others. This facility didn’t have an isolated room for sick or injured child, they keep children in the office room with one of the co-directors. A sick child will have toys to play with, until parent or guardians come to pick up. The facility has parents phone number and email address, and two different phone number from friends and family, in case if they can’t get immediately.
The policy for a child who has communicable disease is that: child should be isolated from other children, child should be supervised, child should be comfortable, the sheets and blankets should be send home to be washed, the nap mat, eating utensils, toys that child used should be washed and disinfected.
A child with contagious disease such as hand foot mouth or chicken pox should be excluded until all blisters have
