Summary
The book that is being reviewed is Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Christian Counseling by Mark R. McMinn, P.H.D. The author describes his goal for the book as “to provide a practical resource within the fields of counseling and psychology that is theologically and spiritually responsible” (McMinn, 2011, p. 29). McMinn explores the fields of theology, psychology and spirituality. McMinn explains how each field is important to healing patience and how they can work well together to heal the whole person.

The author touches on how Christian therapy could help a non-Christian. If a non-Christian makes a conscious choice to come to a Christian therapist then he must be looking for answers beyond his beliefs. My parents were raised differently. My father was raised a catholic and my mother was raised a Presbyterian. Both of my parents had different views of how to pray and how to live their lives, in a Christian manner, but the two of them were able to combine their two beliefs in order to raise three children together. We were raised to believe in the strength of the church and the importance of prayer.
When my father died of a heart attack my faith was shaken, but my mother’s grew stronger. She took my father’s turn at the Catholic Church. She was a Presbyterian and spent every Wednesday night sitting in the Catholic Church saying prayers in respect and remembrance of my father. This makes me think about how psychology, theology and spirituality all work together in Christian counselling. They are different yet when it comes to healing the client they work together, just as my mom and dad were different and when it came time for my mom to heal she found comfort in my father’s
