Biopsychosocial Assessment Critique Capus P. Barnett Valdosta State University In my endeavors to learn how to efficiently interview an older adult, I interviewed a woman named “Teresa Craig” that is sixty-five years old. Interviewing Ms. Craig was a slightly different experience from other interviews I have conducted over the years. It was the first time I interview someone that could be considered “elderly”. I gave me a new perspective on how someone older me thinks and processes what could be considered personal questions.…
The care of cancer is complex. In addition to treatments and consultations, providers must work succinctly on care coordination beyond oncology treatment and assist the patient and their family to mainstream back to primary care. Nevertheless, work toward continuity of care is actively engaging; the lack of utilizing the same tools to assess the patient in survivorship is absent (Snowden et al., 2011). A primary provider may often rely on the patient self-report rather than evaluating the patient based on the same criteria as the oncology unit while the patient is undergoing treatment (Breen & O’Connor, 2013; Clover et al., 2015; Hawley et al., 2010). There are multi-tiered issues; (a) cancer survivors are living longer after treatment and the expectation of improvements in the quality of life after treatment, (b) identification of hidden distresses of survivorship, (c) reliability…
Christy Forsyth is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Psychic Medium, Reiki Master and Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. Christy has a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. She was a traditional counselor for 10 years, but found that regular methods can be a slow moving, and at times discouraging, process for patients.…
The main aim of rehabilitation or medical care is to narrow the gap between a patient’s expectation, hopes, goals and achievement and what actually happens [27]. Also, the trend of the medical care is to demonstrate treatment efficacy by means of quantifiable outcome measures. Thus, the variety of interventions provided to people with cancer and survivors of cancer should be accompanied with appropriate measures. Some health care models were used to fill the gap such as “Patient Centered Care”. Providing patient-centered care requires comprehensive inter-professional and multidisciplinary treatment planning.…

Cherpitel (1997) indicates, “in order for a diagnosis to occur, the problems identified must be listed in the DSM, which will suffice to consider the screening tools valid.” Moreover, Cherpitel (1997) points out, “screening instruments such as the Cage questionnaire, the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test and the Quantity/Frequency Questions have proven valid to assess an individual who has alcohol related issues.” Because of the issues described in Peter’s case analysis, it shows that he may actually have other issues and not just his current employment stressor. It is suspected that Peter may be suffering from a mental health issue that is preoccupying his mind. Depression is a notable factor in this individual, but other factors…
Psychosocial Assessment American Cancer Society anticipated approximately 1,688,780 new cancer cases to be diagnosed and roughly 1,087,860 of the population to live with cancer in the United States in 2014 (American Cancer Society, 2017). Advanced chemotherapy and radiation or surgery had improved the survival rate of the cancer population. In spite of those treatment improvements, cancer had become a chronic illness which had caused the patient population to commonly suffer from fatigue, lower self-esteem, depression and poor quality of life (QOL) during their treatment process. Chronic illness severely had affected the diagnosed patients both physically and mentally. Additionally, it had a great impact on the lives of patient family members,…

In the beginning of second semester I was being introduced into Psychology 101 which I had no idea on what this course will be teaching. As I just know the word “PSY” it would be mentioning about physical or something to do with the body. Then, doing some research about what Psychology will be teaching about from YouTube. Also, reading some articles from this website on what they will be mentioning about what the body will reacts to some situations. In the past months as learning about the basic about Psychology 101 this would be an advantage in taking the next step of becoming a police officer which I could use it to think like a victim and mange an issue or situation into peace that everything could be resolved in a matter of a way.…
When someone has cancer, a great deal of time is spent at the hospital, work, or traveling to and from the hospital. After doing that for so long it may take a toll on the body and affect a way of life. Cancer may affect a person’s life by changing one’s lifestyle to a lower budgeted one. Some of those tolls include not having nice clothes, house, or health care; each of these losses can make people look and feel physically exhausted. When one is used to having the ability to buy things at ease or have nicer things, it could affect their ego and the way they carry themselves.…
Assessing Pain in Nonverbal Patients All individuals communicate verbally and nonverbally, and the ability to comprehend both communication methods is essential. Research indicates that two-thirds of communication is nonverbal and that nonverbal communication is more reliable than verbal (Washington & Leaver, 2010). Effective pain management is crucial for all patients. Many patients fear the perceived pain of disease more than the actual disease. Pain is an individualized, real experience with each patient’s response unique.…
Most of people confuse usual behavior, behavior that deviates from the normality with mental disorder; but the two are not the same. Mental Disorder, as known as mental illnesses, is “Any behavior or emotional state that causes an individual great suffering, is self-destructive, seriously impairs the person’s ability to work or get along with others, or endangers others or the community.” (Wade, 2011, p. 554) People also mix up with mental disorder with insanity. Insanity normally prefer to whether a person is aware of the consequences of his or her action and can control his or her behavior.…
) Other literature has shown that survivors are not completely satisfied in psychological components, such as ‘ability to relax/stay on an even keel’ , ‘freedom from anxiety’, ‘energy/zest for life’ and ‘freedom from aches and pains’ and high levels of anxiety and depression are associated with lower satisfaction with health overall for survivors(Amler et al. 2015). These barriers are just as easily reflected for a general population, and to have the additional of components that come with the struggle of fighting through cancer, it appears cancer survivors not over have to be even more conscious in monitoring their health but have greater barriers to overcome than the average individual. The substantial support showing their specific needs to overcome and lead more physically active lifestyles leads to strategies that benefit wellness on a holistic scale,…
