I always feared visiting the dentist and the doctor. It’s like a mystery you never know what to expect sometimes there is good news and sometimes bad. Oddly my first real job happened to be in a doctor’s office. I have worked there about a year now and I have learned the importance of preventative medicine. I often ask myself each day what if people lived healthier lives, practiced preventive medicine, and took precautions against illness? Taking these precautions could lead to prolonging life, reduction of transmissible disease, and lessening child and infant deaths. I have noticed the issues that my community faces pertaining to sickness. For example as flu season approached there was a decrease in the number of people who were vaccinated …show more content…
I also want to address the issues that affect the overall well-being of families, communities, and societies. I have always expressed the importance of a healthy environment. Working for a Doctor who has her masters in public health has given me the upper hand and much insight on the possibilities I will have with this field. Her concentration is gerontology and she focuses on the longevity of her elderly patients. I decided early on that health promotion and behavior is important to me because I want to promote healthy behaviors and promote healthy habits and impacting …show more content…
I am so interested in attending it is the only school that I applied for. I visited UGA and stayed on campus when I was in high school and I knew that this was the school I want to obtain a degree from. The University of Georgia was the only school that had my concentrations as well as the dual degree option that I am interested in MPH/MSW. In this program I will be able to focus on both aspects that are important to me through two disciplines. The cultural diversity drives me to want to attend UGA even more. The fields that I have chosen to study both require me to work with diversified populations. I know the large campus will allow me to gain life lasting relationships as well as connections with people. I am interested in this school because I am a hard worker academically ready for the next steps. I want to attend UGA because I know I will be challenged academically but I will gain an education that fosters my personal growth and graduate with a degree that will set me to succeed in my future goals. I know at UGA I will receive a quality education, which is important to my overall end

My pursuit of a medical degree is greatly strengthened by the Columbia University Public Health Scholars Program (SPHSP). Prior to matriculation from the program my source of motivation held no true direction, I wanted to simply “help people”. During SPHSP I was exposed to federally qualified health centers (FQHC) and my eyes were opened to new medium to help people. I admired the measures that FQHC put in place to effectively serve a population of people that, under normal circumstances, would not be able pursue healthcare. FQHCs aligned closely to the sense of equity that I began to develop as I was exposed to communities suffering from health disparities over the course of the internship.…

In public environments, many communicable diseases may be easily transmitted from person-to-person because of factors like poor personal hygiene in children and close proximity to one another (such as school environments with young children, or crowded areas where people may attend a football game). Properly protecting and preventing the spread of illness by implementing effective control measures including educational programs, avoidance of risk factors, sanitation, prompt early recognition of symptoms and diagnosis as well as adequate treatment along with vaccination is of major importance to keep our communities safe and healthy. Sensibly vaccination can be reasoned as an important control measure to protect the health of the public. I feel…
