Farhad immediately assumes that Daniel is being deceitful, Daniel angrily tears up the bill and leaves. The next day, Farhad finds his store vandalized with anti-Arab graffiti. Infuriated Farhad finds out Daniel’s address and goes to his house. One of the scene that had the most emotional appeal towards the audience was when Farhad confronts Daniel and tells him that it is his fault that his store was broken into because he did not replace the locks well. Pointing a gun at Daniel’s head, he demands Daniel to pay him money to repair the ruined store. Daniel tries to get Farhad to calm down because he knows that his daughter is watching him. Unexpectedly we see the little girl runs out in slow motion to protect her father with her “invisible cloak”. The composition of the shot grabbed my attention because at the same time the little girl jumps into her father’s arm we hear a gun shot. There is a long pause, there is no background music and all we see is a close up frame of Daniel’s devastated face. We see that Daniel is screaming but there is no sound, the suspense escalates. In addition, even though racism is mainly seen as people having negative impressions of other people there are many others forms. For example, the economic determinists believe that racism is a means by which society gives privilege and status. Racial hierarchies are the ones that determine what people get privileges such as having the opportunity to get the best jobs and education. The most effective way to demand our system to offer everyone equality of opportunity is by resisting oppression, unite and fight back. Similarly, in the reading of The Colonizer and Colonized by Albert Memmi, he talks about how, “…privilege is at the heart of the colonial relationship and that privilege is undoubtedly economic (pg.xii)”. He also explains how not only the colonizer benefit economically but, gave them the sense of superiority over the colonized people, who they can oppress and humiliate which was part of colonial
