The Baby: Since my Doctor told me that I had to go to my check ups every month I did so because I didn't want anything happening to my baby. At my checkup my doctor told me everything was looking fine and explained to me that my baby's facial features are developing. The first things that are developing are the ears, the ears start off as little folds on the side of the baby’s head and the soon will become tiny little ears. In addition to that the little eyes and nose begin to develop. The Mother: Today at my second visit, my doctor asked me if I had symptoms of morning sickness, but I haven’t had any of it yet. I honestly had no idea what that meant until she explained to me. My nose has also become really sharp and some smells bother me. Especially perfumes and shampoos and laundry detergent. The first thing they did was weigh me. This is apparently going to happen at every visit. Then they had me give a urine sample. This is also apparently going to happen at every visit. I have been assured that it gets more difficult to pee in a cup when you can no longer see past your belly. The only remaining thing was to go over my blood test results from my first visit, including letting me know that I am free from STDs, and if I was a Cystic Fibrosis carrier. I was devastated when she told me I was a carrier of Cystic Fibrosis which meant that if my husband had it our baby will have it too.
Risk Factor/Birth Defect: This month I did not smoke nor think about doing so. I have chosen to completely quit for the sake of my baby’s health. The doctor informed me that my baby has a really high chance of being born with cystic fibrosis if my husband is a carrier as well. We will return next month so my husband can get tested I am really
