However, it wasn’t until I started noticing my older sister, that I became concerned with how poorly I was doing. I have a sister that is older than me by two years, and like any stereotypical younger sister, I looked up to her and wanted to be just like her. After I started to realize that she got praised for her good behavior and grades in school, I wanted to be commended as well. Though this did make me want to be a better student and did help me improve, it wasn’t a sudden change. What really changed my mindset about school was my second and third grade teacher, Sarah. The first person I met was Annabella. She was so nice and sweet and an amazing friend. However, I had convinced myself that I needed more friends. That’s when I met Lena. Lena was a nice person at first, but she quickly became mean and manipulative. Over the course of four years, she had pulled me away from Annabella, one of my first best friends here, and had made me turn on her. Being friends with her made me an unkind and selfish person. Luckily I was able to continue to be friends with Annabella after I moved schools and wasn’t friends with Lena anymore. But, after not seeing her anymore, I realized that having friends a higher quantity of friends is way less important than having one higher quality friend. Even though I did have a different perspective on choosing friends, it didn’t mean that I was an expert yet. In sixth grade, when I had moved to Immaculate Heart, I had a friend who I thought was really amazing and nice, just like Lena. However, she ended up turning on me and accusing me of something just so that she wouldn’t get in trouble with her parents. This incident showed me that I shouldn’t be too quick to call someone my best friend. Though the last two examples were sudden, there was one force that changed me gradually.
