I can make a connection to the novel through Cath and her passion for fanfiction. Cath has devoted her life to writing a fanfiction based off of the novel, Carry On by Gemma T. Leslie. Cath took the two main characters in the novel and shifted the plot by making them fall in love. “Isn’t every ninth-grader in North America already reading it...and Japan?” (Rowell 29). Her fanfiction has become especially popular with teenagers throughout North America and other countries around the world. Along with writing fanfiction, Cath dedicates much of her time to reading fanfiction about Carry On by other fanfiction authors comparable to herself. It is prevalent throughout the novel that Cath is extremely passionate about her writing and reading of fanfiction. “I love love stories, Cath said.” (Rowell 56). One prediction I made based off of the novel was that Wren and Cath would grow distant as they entered college. One fact that supports this prediction is that Wren chose not to room with Cath during college. “Wren couldn’t wait for college stuff to start. As their freshman year in college progressed, more hints began to emerge that Cath and Wren were becoming more distant. “She wished Wren was here, to read this before she posted it” (Rowell 51). Cath would often times find herself missing Wren and feeling left out by Wren and Courtney’s friendship. Later in the novel, Cath could no longer have Wren in her life and she lost her temper. “All Wren did lately was complicate Cath’s world” (Rowell 187). Cath’s view of Wren drastically shifted as the novel progressed, proving Wren’s and Cath’s relationship had grown distant. Predicting about the characters in the novel reminded me of how I visualized them in the beginning of the
