Rhetoric can present itself in the forms of radio announcements, magazines, newspapers, political speeches, normal conversation and many other ways. With all these forms of rhetoric that we experience every single day, we are impacted by these rhetorical appeals in more ways than we think. If one wanted to examine how rhetoric impacts an individual in an everyday situation, then one could analyze television advertisements. Television advertisements, are great examples of how we can see and interpret rhetoric in our everyday lives; in addition, they also impact our choices as consumers. Context is an important piece of rhetoric because if the message that the rhetor is trying to make is not put in a specific place, then it makes less of an impact on the specific audience. The Axe Body Spray Effect television advertisement is a great example of how rhetors use context to impact our lives. The Axe commercial places the advertisement on the Music Television Network. This network is known to attract a young audience of both men and women ages sixteen through twenty-five. Since the intended audience is for young average men, the overall message of the Axe Body Spray Effect commercial “Spray more. Get more. The Axe Effect.” will impact the audience in ways in which they will think that by using Axe, they will “Get more” women, sex, etc. Now if the context changed and the Axe Effect commercial was put on another network, for example, the Hallmark Channel, then the intended audience designed for the commercial would not be present, and the rhetoric would fail. As you can see, that context plays a huge role in impacting the lives of the audience and making us aware of what a rhetor wants to persuade us to do, think, feel,
