Worst People on Earth “It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation” Romans 15:20. Roger Youderian took that verse to heart. Roger expressed his love for Christ in many ways. His story is not like many others. This paper will be talking about his early life, where he served, and why he is famous. Roger was born January 21, 1924, on a small farm near Sumatra, Montana. He was the youngest of seven. He had some trouble with health when he turned nine and was diagnosed with Polio, and it crippled him for a long time. After he had overcome some of the side effects of Polio, he joined the army as a paratrooper during World War II (Elliot 68-69). While stationed in England, he assisted an army chaplain and became an evangelical Christian. Roger wanted to pursue becoming a missionary, and he applied to the College of Liberal Arts. There he met Barbra Orton and married her a couple of years later. They both had a love of mission work (Elliot 70). During this mission, they circled the Huaorani tribe with planes and dropped gifts from above. After dropping many gifts, they hoped that they had established a relationship with the tribe. In the beginning, the tribe was hostile towards them but with the gifts, they were friendly. Two days after they landed, a group of Huaorani warriors approached them in a friendly way and tricked the five missionaries into thinking they were friends.
