The writing at this time focused on emotion versus reason and rationality. It also focused on the sublime. The common themes at this time was that beauty is found in things like the sublime and colorize. Furthermore, the individual was more important than the group. Also, they focused on folktales and mythology. They also idolized Native Americans. Transcendentalism was a subgroup of Romanticism, they had many of the same ideals and views.
