Andrew Jacksons views on Native Americans was in fact, the exact opposite of those of Sam Houston. Andrew Jackson worked and lived for the common man, Native Americans was not included in that group. When Sam Houston first joined the army, he was under the watch of Andrew Jackson. Under Andrew Jackson was Sam Houston's first fight against Native Americans, specifically the Creek Indians. While Sam Houston wanted peace for the Indians, Andrew Jackson wanted their removal. Despite the Natives adaptation to American civilization Andrew Jackson did not want them around. During Sam Houston's exile, Houston wrote a letter to his mentor stating that he will remain "the proud and honest man!"; referring to him being among the Indians upon their removal(pg.27-28).Despite being such close friends with Andrew Jackson Sam Houston stood before Andrew Jackson fully clothed in Indian apparel, ready to stand up against his friend in support of the Native Americans. In addition, Sam Houston was not a big supporter of slavery, despite having owned slaves. Andrew Jackson despite being for the common man and equality made a big profit off of slavery. However the stances and chances he took, helped make America what it is today. He showed us that it is possible to work your way up in the ranks an make a change in the political world. Despite loosing some battles, like the fight for Native Americans, he made it clear that he was a man of his word a refused to give up for what he believed in. Sam Houston seemed to be the correct man for Texas and America. Houston went west while facing a hard time in his life, despite that he was able to create and achieve great things. His wisdom and erratic decision of in saving Santa Anna is deemed to have done more to seal Texas' independence than any other thing he achieved.
