Self-Assessment: My First Day In My Writing Class

Self-Assessment I remember my first day in my writing class, I was very nervous about writing. I had never taken a writing class before so you can understand why. I have always loved to read but mostly for fun. My first essay was a narrative. I chose to write about an event that took place when I was younger. I must have written over four different essays before I eventually settled on this particular topic. I started to write and so many things where new to me. Where do I start? How do I arrange it? My punctuation was less than perfect. My diction was poor. I have become a totally new and empowered writer. Now I have my strength in analysis. I can break down a book to its simplest form and explain what the author was thinking or trying to say.

I write with better precision, better word choices and in the simplest of ways. I know now that writing an essay is not about how many words you use but how well you use those words. It is not about having the perfect arrangement but arranging it such that readers are not distracted from the intent of the essay. My writing skill has improved tremendously. Now I can identify when I use run-ons or comma splices in my essays and correct them. I have learnt the need to write and rewrite to get the best from my essays, but most importantly I no longer feel nervous about
