However, the results of the present study do not support the idea of a negative correlation. Instead, there is a weak, but significant positive correlation between self-defeating humor and the use of humor as a coping strategy, rather than the negative correlation between the two measures. By recording ethnicities and gender of the participants, the relationship between self-defeating humor and the use of humor as a coping strategy could differ between these categories. In the study conducted by Chen and Martin (2007), they had Chinese and Canadian participants complete the HSQ and the CHS. The results of their study showed that the two ethnicities had differing results. For example, they found that there was insignificant correlation between self-defeating humor and Self-enhancing humor among the Canadian female participants, while there was a significant positive correlation found in the Chinese female participants (Chen & Martin, 2007). Therefore, since there was differing correlations between the different ethnicities and genders, this study could further explore those
