Servant Evangelist Case Study

Part One- What were the circumstances surrounding your servant evangelism encounters? I was on an EMS call to a scene of a paraplegic man who wanted to be transported to the hospital to look at a sore that he had. When I arrived on the scene the patient was found lying on the floor shaking because he was so high on drugs. There was drug paraphernalia all over his house and the patient admitted to being on crystal meth at the time that I was there. The patient was crying being the cops were there and he knew that he would be going to jail and would not be able to see his sons for a while. While I was loading the patient onto the stretcher I had the opportunity to ask him if he knew Christ because he needed peace at this moment in his life.
Part Two- What was the reaction of the unbeliever? His reaction was no he did not know Christ personally, but he has heard about Him before. I was able to talk about how his sons would not want to see their father in this shape and that he needs to get clean if not for him but for his children. He admitted that he wanted to get clean, but that he did not have the strength or willpower to stick with it. I told him that the Lord will give him peace if he calls on Him and He will be able to help him get through this.

They said that the churches down the road sometimes brings them food, but not many individual people bring them stuff. This encounter was pretty easy. If you just show compassion and thankfulness for what others do to serve the community, you can easily show the love of Christ to other people around you. I would definitely serve someone in this way again, but next time I might bring them dinner instead of desserts. I was able to pray with them while I was there because they ended up getting toned for a call. I prayed that there would be no injuries and that everyone would stay

Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…

By being willing to do whatever was necessary to make a difference, we were able to affect the lives of many people by sharing the love of Christ in a practical way. We pulled up to the church on a Monday afternoon and quickly piled out of the vans. We were all ready to get settled in, but that was not the plan Carrie, the outreach coordinator for Restored, had.…

Observations Carl S. Dudley and Sally A. Johnson offer some helpful descriptors in their book Energizing the Congregation. Dudley and Johnson offer five images, survivor, prophet, pillar, pilgrim, and servant to describe the character of different congregations. It is important to take the narrative and ethnography and interpret it to better understand the congregation and how it might meet its missional call. While Dudley and Johnson are careful to point out that it is rare for a congregation to fit into a single image the characteristics of the servant church seem to be most helpful in understanding Woodview. Service is important within the congregation and the church helps serve several individuals and families that have become part of our church.…
