The blazing rays of the hot summer sun beamed down on the sticky asphalt. I dashed into the high school as the rays touched my skin. Walking in the doors, the halls were dark. Twenty-three girls sat on the floor to the right of me, waiting to hear if they made the soccer team. I began walking towards them. . I could hear a pin drop. I crouched down on the dusty green floor. My soaked hair grazed against the locker as I leaned my head back on the metal locker making a loud bang. Everyone looked at me, but I kept my head down and continued to play on my phone. I tried to pass the time by chewing my minty gum very obnoxiously.

My mocha Birkenstocks dragged against the shaggy carpet making an annoying rubbing noise. Finally, I reached the table. The three coaches sat there staring at me. Oh no. I’m done. Don’t cry. Don’t cry. “Hey Morgie,” Chris barked. “We are so happy that you came to play soccer with us here. You’re an excellent player and you worked really hard over the course of this summer. I’ll first start by saying that you made JVA. We love your motor and how you’re a team player, and I know that Troy is excited to coach you this season. Now go get your uniform.”
I had a beaming smile on my face. I whipped my sweat on my ‘Rocky Top’ Tennessee t-shirt. As I left I told the coaches thank you, that I would not disappoint them this fall, and how much this means to me. The minute I got out of the learning center, I called my mom. My hands were shaking with excitement I could barely click on the right numbers. The ringing of the phone stopped as I heard the tranquil sound of my mom’s voice on her voicemail. “Mom, I made JVA,” I whispered into the phone then ended the
