Social Media Belonging

There’s no denying it, social media has taken over our lives. Nowadays it’s impossible to find someone that isn’t connected to facebook or twitter or instagram, etc. Undoubtedly, this has influenced our behaviour drastically, especially for the younger generations. The real question is, are these changes for better, or for worse.
The Good Social media allows us to connect with virtually anyone. It “meets our basic need for a sense of belonging” says JoAnne Cantor, Ph.D. “Hearing from our friends and family makes us feel important and loved.” The effortless interaction we see on social media sites can be very good when it comes to sharing community issues. If something happens that people should know about, sure enough the word will get around.
