A lot of that stress comes from the coaches and the harsh things they say or make the children do for punishment. There are a bunch of times that a child will then go to their parents to receive the same yelling and anger from them, that they just got from their coach. “Coaches are allowed to be emotionally illiterate,” Mr. Amaechi said. “I’ve watched as a coach stood screaming inches from the face of a girl and the parents were in the stands and instead of being incensed they continued screaming at her when she came to them.” (Sullivan). This type of coaching does not motivate the players, instead it can leave them stressing, wondering why they are not good enough to play. If children are brought attention in a bad way, their skills will not improve. Instead they will end up showing anger in another way. This type of yelling abuse would not be tolerated in any other classroom situation.
