Stick Shift Research Paper

“You only ever use your right foot while driving! Never use your left for brake! Use your right foot for both pedals!!” This is all I heard for the first six months from my dad when learning to drive. By the time he was teaching me to drive a stick shift, not using my left foot for driving was so engraved in my mind, that I had no idea how I was supposed to use one foot for three pedals. It turns out, when driving a manual car, this rule does not apply. Learning to drive a stick shift can be a very emotional and discouraging experience; at least that is how mine was. I was sixteen years old and the car I wanted, a beautiful red Volkswagen Beetle, was a five-speed. I was already in love with the car from the day my mom brought it home five years earlier. After weeks of begging my dad to teach me, he finally gave in and we set a day to go over the basics of …show more content…
Shifting gears while driving can either be super easy or super difficult depending on how comfortable you are with the clutch. The best way to know when to shift gears is by looking on the dash and finding the RPM gauge. When the engine revs between 3,000 and 4,000 RPM’s it is time to shift. Cars will differ with their shifting range so check the owner’s manual on the best shifting range for the car. First gear will be the only exception to this since most cars do not enjoy being in first gear and would like to be shifted out as soon as possible. Shifting to second, third, fourth, and fifth gear is the same as getting the car started in first. The only difference, the car is already moving. Naturally, one wants to keep pressing the gas to keep the car moving while shifting gears, but unfortunately, that is not recommended. You must shift gears while driving in a fast manner, so as not to stop the flow of traffic or fall too far below the speed

Ted's wishes By jacob Kothe When it comes to driving a stick shift manual car, you can get a little stressed out. What I mean by that when you're driving around the neighborhood with your instructor (my dad) he makes you turn, a lot stop on hills, and insures that you stop at a stop sign, when you think that he insures that you stop at stop signs you think of something else. You have to go up to the sign and push down on the clutch. And stop at the sign press down the gas and slowly let off the clutch. You would think that's pretty easy, but if you overload the transmission, then your car dies, you have to start it back up and if you you let of the clutch off to fast the car starts bouncing and won't stop bouncing so you just keep bouncing.…

You should leave with the correct amount of time to get to your destination without having to speed. Speeding is not, and never will be, the answer to getting places on time. If you have to speed to get to where you’re going, maybe you should change your plans for another day.…

Being part of the generation who grew up watching Fast and the Furious films has always made me want to drive a car. At that time I knew I still had a while before I could drive, but any chance I got to be in the driver seat I would. My first time I ever got behind the wheel was right after I watch the fast and the furious in 2001. It was during the summer, my mom was washing her car and according to her “I accidently locked myself inside and somehow I managed to turn the car on and started backing up the car.” My mom was so scared she started yelling “put the car on park” “put the car on park” but I had no clue what she meant.…

This type of endeavor greatly pushed me to the limit to solve this unforeseeable problem I had to overcome, because during this time I had no one to instruct me. I felt extremely out of my comfort zone, because I had to complete a task I set out to do that I had no idea on how to accomplish at first. I had to look through guides and tutorials at first to even figure out how to get going using the clutch and gear system.…
