Storm chasers Val and Amy risk their lives chasing twisters. The storm chasers are always prepared for upcoming twisters. For example, Val and Amy Castor tracks storms for News 9, a TV station in Oklahoma City. They film twisters and give live reports to viewers at home. News 9 dispatches them to areas where tornadoes are likely to strike. If Val and Amy spot a twister forming, they immediately call into the station with its location. Val uses computers in their truck that measures the storms wind speed and direction to give live reports about the strength and path of the …show more content…
Tornadoes cause major damage to buildings and people. Specifically, these cone-shaped spinning columns of air produce-winds that can reach 300 MPH. They can ravage homes, schools, and nearly anything else in their path. Tornadoes are unpredictable, even with instruments to track thunderstorms. Storm chasers accurately tracks the unpredictable twister. Additionally, tornadoes are feared by many. Tornadoes occur in Tornado Alley and Dixie Alley. In particular, about 40 scientists are spreading out to Dixie and Tornado Alley to learn and save lives. The project, VORTEX-SE, is the first major study of twisters in the area. The scientists measure wind, precipitation, and other factors that lead to tornadoes. VORTEX-SE makes tornadoes more predictable. Additionally, jobs such as storm chasing may be lost because of this. Thus, tornadoes destroy many things and has to be looked at as a
