When becoming old, you have difficulties of doing task on your own and it can hurt a man’s pride when they hear they must live in a nursing home. Though it can be sad and depressing like Koven mentioned, but this is the sad truth to living. It is essentially the circle of life and all living things must die, including plants. We are not made to live forever and science hinders the circle of life when a person well knows that their end is near. Gawande states, “In the Unites States, 25 percent of all Medicare spending’s is for the 5 percent of patients who are in their final years of life, and most of that money goes for care in their last couple of months that is of little apparent benefit”(153). The essence of Gawande’s argument is that we are spending lottery ticket numbers on patients who are already have no chance of living and spending this amount of money does not benefit them one bit. From this viewpoint it is a waste of precious medications, space in hospitals/ nursing homes, and money. We cannot save lives of people who are destined to pass
