In the textbook excerpt “ Relationships and technology” by Joseph A. DeVito, the main idea is how the world of social media and online dating has impacted people of all races, ages, and genders. The author supports their argument on how the new age of technology has changed and impacted individuals in todays society. This assertion by suggesting that 75 percent of women and 55 percent of men had formed personal relationships online(pg. 309). This means that by far, women enjoy social media and connecting with people of similar interest more than men do. The organizational pattern consists of statistics behind DeVito's statements. As an example, DeVito explains that 93.6 percent of the users formed ongoing friendships and romantic relationships.
