Synthesis Of Beeswax

Decent Essays
Candles are made up of chemical compounds pressed together in the form or a candle. They are made of two totally different types of wax which is Paraffin wax and Beeswax. The Paraffin candles are 95% of the world’s population of candle production. But when it comes to the beeswax the beekeepers can only used one or two pounds of the wax for every hundred pounds of honey they are able to harvest. They are also thought being able to clean the air because when the beeswax candle is burned it releases negative ions into the air which makes the pollen dust and other thing get sucked into the candle or fall onto the ground. While it does that there are also cases where it helped with asthma also allergies. ( Lauren Geertsen, September 8, 2012)

Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is killing off honey bees due to being fed affected High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) with the deadly contaminant. The experiment should be Bruce and his father testing the HFCS in different temperatures and different areas, to see how the HMF forms. For Bruce and his father’s hypothesis: At different areas and temperatures, the HFCS develops the contaminant, HMF. The independent variable of this experiment is the HMF and the dependent variable is HFCS because the HFCS is changed due to the HMF infecting it. Standardized variables are the temperature of the HFCS, the amount of HFCS, and the amount time that the HFCS is in the temperature.…

Chanukkah, the Jewish festival of rededication, also known as the festival of lights, is an eight-day festival beginning on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev, is probably one of the best known Jewish holidays, not because of any great religious significance, but because of its proximity to Christmas. Many non-Jews and even many assimilated Jews, think of this holiday as the Jewish Christmas, adopting many of the Christmas customs, such as elaborate gift-giving and decoration. It is ironic that this holiday, which has its roots in a revolution against assimilation and the suppression of Jewish religion, has become the most assimilated, secular holiday on their calendar. Therefore, the story of Chanukkah begins in the reign of Alexander…

Experiment 5 Synthesis and NMR Spectroscopy of ethyl cinnamate Introduction: Wittig reactions involve the stereoselective synthesis of olefins from phosphonium ylides and aldehydes or ketones, where the carbonyl bond is converted to an alkene double bond.1 The variety of suitable reagents and the relatively mild experimental conditions facilitate their industrial applications, such as the synthesis of epoxides, esters, carotenoids and vitamin A.2,3 Specifically, the ester ethyl cinnamate is used as a flavouring agent and in perfumes. The diastereomers of the alkene are distinguished through Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy, where the coupling constants of alkenyl protons are different for (E) and (Z) isomers.4…
