Target and Starbucks operate in different markets and sell different products, but their shared values can be somewhat overlooked. Target, a retail chain, offers home goods, clothes, electronics, and groceries. By contrast, Starbucks is a coffee chain found across the world. However, their shared commitment to doing business ethically, legally, and to their best ability is why Starbucks can be found in many Targets. In fact, Target’s code of conduct explicitly states its “commitment to doing business ethically and legally means that we will only work with vendors and suppliers who share the same commitment.” In terms of the specifics of each of the company’s codes of conducts, both explain their determination to keep an inclusive and safe …show more content…
Starbucks’ community involvement includes environmental responsibility, which is best exemplified in “All partners should seek ways to proactively address the environmental impacts of our operations and incorporate the principles of the environmental mission statement into their work.” In addition to community involvement, Starbucks values integrity in an effort to prevent conflicts of interest, maintain accurate books and records, and honesty in disclosures. Finally, Starbucks values respect, much like Target, in the workplace and its store locations. Respect in the workplace comprises partners being entitled to work in an environment that is free of harassment, bullying and discrimination. In terms of customer service, employees must treat customers with respect. With regards to my own values, the value Starbucks has that most aligns with mine is community involvement. I’m a firm believer in doing all the good you can, for as many people as you can, for as long as you can. For that reason, I value helping out your community as much as you can. After each code of conduct lists the appropriate employee behaviors, they explain what to do when something goes wrong. Target provides links to forms and emails to contact in order for employees to file a report or raise any questions or concerns. For instance, at the end of each section and on last page of the code, Target provides an email such as riskandcompliance@target.com and integrity hotline options. Starbucks provides pages in the code detailing the ethical decision-making framework and including frequently asked questions in order to help employees proactively prepare for problems when they
