Accordingly, sex education classes should become part of the mandatory curricula at all public high schools in Texas. During my high school years, I had many different teachers. I liked some of the teacher, and some of the teachers I did not like. While they were different in many ways, the teachers all had one thing in common. They did not want to acknowledge, believe, or hear about sex. As with many adults outside of school, teachers refuse to believe that sex is something teenagers do. Maybe sex makes them uncomfortable. Maybe they believe that if we don’t talk about it we must not do it. This belief is not the case. If students had a sex education class to ask questions in or even just listen, they would learn essential and useful information. We all know the difficulties of talking with your parents about sex; therefore, we need the schools to step in and help open the door to communication. The sooner we become more comfortable with it the better off students will be.
