I have chosen one particular clip from this movie to illustrate a few parts of social judgment theory (Emmanuel, 2014). In this particular clip, the woman tries to investigate the case of an adopted boy, Michael and his foster parents. He is helped by his new parents in obtaining a scholarship for football at a university of their own choice. The woman tries to convince Michael to believe that his parents have adopted him to their family and helped him so he could ultimately get into their favorite university and help its football team succeed. He is constantly bombarded with judgments regarding his new family’s intentions. As can be viewed in the clip, the legal advisor makes statements regarding the intentions of his new family by pointing out that not only his foster parents have both gone to Ole Miss, them and his tutor also give generous donations to the university. In her opinion, all of this is not a coincidence and that there is a well formed thought behind his adoption. Michael receives the judgment and categorizes each statement into the latitude of acceptance, non-commitment and rejection, all based on his current and prior
