There told and trained to call when they get into town and when they’ve left town so the freedom school they work at knows they’re safe. They’re on the road having fun and arrive at the house they need to be at but the man they need to see isn’t home so they head back. On their way home the three young men are stopped by the sheriff and arrested for a speeding ticket. The sheriff held them in jail long enough so the KKK could recruit members for a group to kill James, Andy, and Mickey (Murder in Mississippi). He gave them no phone call but Andy almost convinced the sheriff's wife to let them make call (Mississippi Burning). He told her that his family always spent fathers day together due to a family issue and she almost gave but, as she returned, she said that a phone call would not be able to be made. Once the group had figured out someone else had called the meeting, they got frantic and said things like “They’re onto us.” and “They know what we did.”. After that they would catch each member by surprise, getting each one to say something. They got one member and told him that another member said he killed James causing him to defend himself and tell who killed James. After he admitted to what he did they dropped him off in an all black neighborhood causing him to run out of fear.
