Confidence: Gibby
From the moment we are born, we are shaped by the people who surround us, and sculpted by our environment. Whether it be our teachers, family or strangers we meet in passing, never to be seen again. I was influenced by someone I never met. His name is Gibby, a character from a children’s TV series. Ever since the day I was nicknamed Gibby I have developed a since of confidence, the ability to love, and speak the truth. I would never have had these attributes, let alone appreciate them if it wasn’t for Gibby.
Voices talking in the background unclear like static, but they each had their own voices, as if they were birds chirping away at dawn. Then a louder, clear voice is honking away in a sea of traffic. I hear my name. Or

Every invention or great theory has started with an idea. He is who I want to be, who I aim to be, who has become me. I believe I am funny and charismatic, that what I do is just as much for me as it is for others. He has influenced me to be inspirational. One of many quotes has inspired me, “It always seems impossible until its done”, - Nelson Mandela. I say “ It takes courage to be who you want, and bravery to do what you want”, Danyel Lyday. I want to be this idea and to do an act so brave it’ll have a butterfly effect on the people who surround me; my family, teachers, strangers. Gibby might not be more than a glorified imaginary friend, nonetheless he still influenced me. Ten years from now I probably won’t be called Gibby. Gibby would just be a faint memory. He will still influence me, to be a better person tomorrow than the person I am today, to be who I am, and illustrate that through my work, smile and values. Inspiration isn’t lost on the hopeless, for the hopeless are the ones who need to be inspired. I needed to be inspired, not that I didn’t have role models, it’s that inspiration was lost on me. Call me crazy for taking a vibrant, one dimensional character, and transforming myself into the woman I am today. Being influenced by Gibby is no different than being influenced by God. To me God is a higher being who knows no bounds, and has faithful and loyal followers even though he is not seen. I …show more content…
My fellow students don’t know how much they influenced my life by nicknaming me Gibby. I could hope that what I do, with my words that belch out pain, with my heart that cuts me every time it pumps blood through my veins, leaves an impact. Speaking the truth, having confidence behind your words, fighting through the pain of living is worth it. Being the best self I can be with confidence is challenged every day, and if it didn’t challenge me it wouldn’t ever be worth it. Or I could just be hopeless once more thinking that it is crazy to be inspired. To have my own identity, influenced by my own imagination. Gibby has influenced me, he won’t know how much so, he might not influence anyone else. It might take my life to be lost, it might mean me leaving this earth without knowing if I have impacted anyone, for my identity to be truly treasured, and to influence all, young and old. I don’t live in my own head, in my own imagination, I know reality all too well. I know the

Have you ever caught yourself allowing your mind to become an excellent servant but a terrible master? The most valuable lesson that I have learned in my life thus far is the notion that the quality of life that I live is dependent upon the way that I choose to think. The individuals that we are and the individuals we aspire to be are hypothetically supposed to allign; for it is how we think that’ll determine whether or not the person you are now will be the person you aspire to be. Through the analysis of my past, present, and future I will analyze my passion for baseball as a child and how it contributed to how my masculinity was formed, I will analyze David Foster Wallace’s “This is Water” commencement speech and how it has contributed to…

In my life it is not necessarily experiences that have shaped who I am, but instead the people whom I have met during those experiences along the way. When I was younger I played soccer frequently and joined a local team that was coached by a man named Joe Di Lillo. At the time I did not know the importance he would hold in my life or how having known him in his last years of life would change me, yet looking back I find that so much of my self determination is rooted in both his life experiences and the knowledge he handed down to me. Joe was Bon in 1933 in he city of Roman, thirty miles from Naples. Born into a poor family Mr. Di Lillo did not have the opportunity to have an education and his family believed it was more important for him…

When society defines inspiration it is commonly associated with world leaders and people who changed the world for the better. This makes it seem impossible to believe that any everyday person can be an inspiration. Yet that one close friend or mentor seems to have a much larger impact on us than any of those famous characters. I believe that everyone has a Clarisse inside of them, but that society has made it so hard to imagine that we can make a difference. In my life, I have found a person who expresses their inner Clarisse and brightens my life.…

Elie Wiesel, a man of many words, once said “Let us not forget, after all, that there is always a moment when the moral choice is made. Often because of one one story or one book or one person, we are able to make a different choice, a choice for humanity, for life.” Simple people which one passes carelessly everyday can change another's perspective on the way they view life forever. I have looked up to a lot of different people throughout my years, all being of great wealth and fame, but what I didn’t notice until recently was the one who had the greatest impact on my life was much closer to me than expected. You can see this through many sources, including your own life, but today we’ll be focusing on a much more narrow spectrum of all these experiences, including those from What, of This Goldfish Would You Wish?, A Visit to Grandmother, and both Adam and my experiences. My Catalyst Each individual in this world carries on a view of themselves, of others, of things, of beings that expand from one state of mind to another. Each event that has happened from birth to this day acts like a rhythmic catalyst carrying one piece of the story to the next. At certain times of our lives, that catalyst can become more than a regular “piece”, it becomes something that we often look back to as we grow up. It could range from first realizing that a plump man in a red velvet suit cannot possibly squeeze his body into a chimney, to standing in front of a crowd dressed in a white dress and veil to say “I do”. What has impacted me, were a few simple words that my uncle had said that had extraordinarily simplified my young and yet to be understood life.…
