Equality of opportunity in education has received a lot of attention, both positive and negative in the past generations. Unlike Horace Mann, who thought of education as a way of preparing our students for the workforce, Jefferson preferred that students were prepared to have a political voice and possibly hold a political position later (Spring, 2016).
