This shows that the well-being of her children was not there in their time of need. Truth makes another good statement when she said, “I could have ploughed and planted, and gathered into barns, and no man could head me! And ain't I a woman?” This shows that instead of being treated like every other man and given the respect she deserves, she has had her well-being thrown away, because of the color of her skin, or the gender that she is. This shows that for reasons, that shouldn’t matter, she is treated like she doesn’t matter. Abraham Lincoln said in the third paragraph, “But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground.” He says this to show that there was a great, bloody war that had to happen in order to secure the liberties and freedoms that we truly desire. We need these memories because if we were to forget about our history, we would be doomed to repeat it. Abraham also says in the third paragraph, “ The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract.” Lincoln means that we could never be as much as a help the United States as both the living and dead have. We need to honor and respect the fallen soldiers, for they have fought for our rights, even before they could have ever met us. We need to remember the brave soldiers who fought for us, because they molded this future out of an idea, and that should always be an inspiration to us
