D. physics teacher assistant Thilina Shihan, and the following undergraduates: Andrey Stukopin, a chess Grandmaster perusing a physics degree and Guillermo Vazquez, a computer science major were interviewed to see the importance of college algebra in their degree. Shihan states that Physics without math, especially college algebra would not simply be solvable. Moreover, he considers math to be the basic idea to explain “any quantitative disciplines” in fields such “physics, chemistry, finance, computer science, and economics” (Shihan, 2016). On the other hand, Andrey Stukopin states that college algebra, indeed, is a base for his career in Physics as well as in chess where applied math is used to find certain algorithms or formulas that will enhance his games. Guillermo Vasquez states that math is considered “the base for all other sciences, like physics, chemistry, and biomedical (2016). Double majoring in Physics and Computer Science, Vazquez states that in his major, college algebra is crucial to make programs and to further his studies in linear algebra and calculus. He then states that in Physics “almost everything is just some applied math” whereas in computer science, college algebra is considered the basics in to solve a system of equations to make programs …show more content…
Throughout Weinberg studies, understanding human intelligence began controversies for many psychologists; however, adults characterize intelligence as having problem solving and reasoning skills which are characteristics gained after taking college algebra (1989). College algebra will increase intellectual development by “assessing individual differences in intellectual competence” which can “expand awareness of how society can intervene to enhance individuals’ intellectual skills (1989). Consequently, having logic is essential in obtaining future jobs and in life itself because without it we would not be able to solve any issue presented to us. In math, similar to life, some ideas just do not make sense and these, logically reasoning skills will benefit our mind to find the best possible outcomes. To conclude, the skills gained from taking this course will benefit our lives. This course will prepare us for the future due to all the different scenarios that are presented in life. After taking college algebra, one will be able to solve issues at work without having difficulties finding a solution. The chronological order that is taught in algebra will help students prepare logical thinking skills in other classes as well. The mental ability, skills obtained after taking this course will be for a
