The concept of self-regulation entails voluntary regulation whereby nurses accept that they are required to practice under certain boundaries. Self-regulation requires the nurses to possess an internal locus of control. In this case, the patient is too young to make a personal decision. The parents are, therefore, legally responsible for the decisions that they make, and the nurse should abide by them. As highlighted by Ulrich et al. (2010), most vaccination laws permit vaccination to be undertaken even only one parents consents to it. However, the nurse should critically evaluate their role in promoting such decisions. There is need to respect and uphold the dignity and to act in the best interest of the patient.
