A study by Concordia University states that teachers spend more time teach test subjects and do not put emphasis on other non-test subject such as science, art, and social studies ("Should We Get Rid of Standardized Tests in School?"). Also, students must hit certain marks to be “proficient”, so a student might make a decent amount of improvement over a year and still not be considered proficient (Armstrong). This is not a good way to test growth because every student is taking the exact same test even though some students are much more proficient than others. For example, the students that score near perfect scores every year might not be getting tested hard enough, and there is no way to tell if they are experiencing growth in their skills or not. Therefore, students should receive different test based on their skill level so schools can see more accurately how much students are growing year to year. Also, about eighty percent of college students change their major at least once because for one, they might not even know their strengths, and/or not have an idea as to what career they want to go in to when they start college (Ramos). This is because the current system does not really give students the opportunity to figure out what they want to do. Changing majors can cost students thousands of dollars because they still must pay for the major specific classes even though they changed majors. Another thing current standardized testing does not show is creativity, current standardize test is all book work type of things like doing math problems, and reading a passage and then answering questions about that passage. It does not allow outside the box thinkers and creative people to showcase their talents and skills (Armstrong). A new test that would test all school subjects would let these people show their creative ability. Not being able to be creative and being
