The Lifeboat

This was the case in the book The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan. This novel tells the story of 36 survivors who survived the crash of Empress Alexandra due to an explosion with mysterious origins. Now they must survive in a lifeboat for 22 days and for some to live, some must die. The tale of these survivors is riveting and I myself couldn't believe what I was reading. The plot itself definitely seemed appealing from the start, and I was not disappointed. It told an amazing survival story but refrained from being to cliche. The plot thickened and became more drama filled with every turn of the page. The first person point of view was extremely helpful in picturing what the situation really would have been like if the reader was there. Although

Pretty Place Going to Waste In Garrett Hardin’s “Lifeboat Ethics: The Case Against Helping the Poor” he describes a sight that we all encounter sometimes daily. Hardin calls this the “tragedy of the commons”. The “tragedy of the commons”, is the idea that citizens are ruining aspects of the community that belong to everyone through their lack of care. This could be playgrounds, parks, historical sites, etc. Downtown Hot Springs fully embodies this concept.…

In Garrett Hardin’s paper, “Lifeboat Ethics: The Case against Helping the Poor,” Harden uses the analogy of a lifeboat being a nation. He intends to offer his opinion, while explaining why his theory, “Lifeboat Ethics,” is more accurate than a previous theory, “Spaceship Earth” (Hardin, 358). Throughout the paper he explains that by the rich supporting the poor, they are enabling the poor to continue in their destructive ways and to ultimately cause “environmental ruin” (Hardin, 366). Hardin’s work is persuasive, but can be perceived as harsh and confusing.…

Consequently, I found it strange how the main plot is constructed out of a bunch of short stories. Whereas, the book was not hard to follow it didn’t contain much depth having more of a meager intensity. Though I found the story to be mediocre it incorporated some intriguing creativity within how…

Lifeboat or Death boat By looking at "Lifeboat Ethics: The Case Against Helping the Poor" by Garrett Hardin, society can see that there are limited resources and have to make a decision to help the poor economic people. The importance in this argument is that the population of poor people will keep growing every year. The first proposed idea the author gives is we should let in all 100 poor, under privileged, people into the lifeboat.…

I've read the story Hangovers from Jennifer Pashley. I have chosen this story because it was the shortest story. The story is about misery in life and not feeling up to par. This feeling is described as a hangover and describes the similarities between them. The misery can last longer than a day, even some years and also other people and animals have this same feeling of misery.…

The book made me feel an urgency to get moving, much like the characters were doing. The story flipped between the nuclear program sub-plot and the romance at a good pace so that I could tell what was going on without forgetting about certain characters or situations. I read the first ten chapters of the book really fast because of the flow and I wanted to know what happened next. I usually don't read books from the romance genre, but I enjoyed reading this one. I would recommend this book for people who already enjoy romance, but want to add some action/adventure to their reading because there are explicit love scenes, so I'm not sure people who don't already enjoy romance would enjoy that…

There’s definitely a lot to really admire about this script. It easily engages, the characters are likable, and the plot has merit. In addition, the setting feels unique and special. With that said, the script, however, would benefit from further development in the areas of the structure, pace, tension, and clarification, as well as more character development.…

During the construction of the Titanic the planning team implemented several safety features in order to prevent any incidences from occurring. The first feature of the Titanic is the lifeboats which is the most important feature of the Titanic as the lifeboats would be the only escape route of the ship if a fire were to start or if it started sinking. The ship had been built to equip 64 lifeboats however there was only 20 lifeboats on the ship and each boat could carry up to 65 people [Titanicfacts.net, 2016] The reason for the minimal amount of boats aboard the ship was because other designers did not want the deck to be too cluttered and marine regulators stated that it was not necessary for everyone on the ship to have a seat. Another reason for the high level of deaths was because the boats had not been adequately filled…

Normally I love anthology films, so given that I've enjoyed all the films based on H.P. Lovecraft's works so far I figured this one would be a blast. But it wasn't, for a number of reasons. But mainly it just couldn't manage to hold my interest. The stories just felt to drawn out, which is strange since they're loosely based on some of Lovecraft's novellas and short stories. Well except for the wrap around story that end caps the film, Jeffery Combs as H.P. Lovecraft did a great job…
