The Lyrical Content and Imagery in Simple Plan’s Crazy
“Tell me what’s wrong with society” is the opening line that Pierre Bouvier, the lead singer of Simple Plan, sings in their song “Crazy” (Simple Plan line 1 ). This line draws the audience’s attention and asks them to think about the problems that are going on in our world today. Despite the fact that “Crazy” was released in 2004 on their second studio album, Still Not Getting Any…, the song is still applies to us and the world we live in today. She lies on her bed in her room as if she has been locked in her room by her parents, or she just does not want hear her parents fighting. Instead of disciplining children for their bad behavior, parents should have a real relationship with their children. It is sad to see parents who are really close to their kids, while others do not know their children at all. Kids should not have to keep everything bottled up inside them. They need to let it out and talk to someone about it, whether it is a friend or a family member. However, when they cannot turn to anyone else, their parents should be the most reliable people they can run to for advice or a quick chat from time to time. But in order for parents to have that kind of relationship with their children, they also need to get rid of their busy schedules and their greed for money. They need to figure out what their priorities are first because nowadays, everyone is obsessed with making lots of money to make ends meet. As a result, they do not see the things that matter anymore. Money should not be “our first priority” because it only provides temporary satisfaction (line 21). In the third verse of the song, Pierre Bouvier sings “Rich guys driving big SUVs / While kids are starving in the streets” (Simple Plan lines 33-34). People who are rich live a different life from people who are in the middle class or are poor. They can buy anything they want because they have the money to spend on things they need as well as things they do not need. While rich people can afford to buy “big SUVs” or fancy dinners, the middle class do not have enough money to spend on themselves for luxuries and the poor do not have any money at all. The idea of “No one cares / No one likes to share” needs to change because everyone should care about the homeless and share their wealth with others who are in need (lines 35-36). People in the middle class and the poor must work two or more jobs just to make ends meet for their family, so they end up having no time to spend with their family.
