In the story “the Most Dangerous Game” General Zaroff is the obvious antagonist . He’s the antagonist mostly because he hunts other humans for nothing more than sport. Also a fact being the two have completely different views on what and how they hunt. General Zaroff got bored animals claiming they became too ‘easy’ to kill, but with humans they have the ability to think and survive in a more unique and creative way. Rainsford however while also enjoying hunting for sport hunts animals, and believes that Zaroffs idea of hunting humans is just purely murder. These two opposing thoughts can clearly create a tension between the two “ ‘I want to show you my new collection of heads’ , will you come with me to the library?’ ‘I hope’ said Rainsford ‘that you will excuse me tonight General Zaroff’” ( Connell 32). This quote can clearly display the opposing ideas the two share. General Zaroff who wants to have some fun toying with Rainsford , then Rainsford who fully despises General Zaroff's ideas of amusement and
