How did Charters Begin?

Thus, charters having a rapid impact on the education system, most wonder why charters were created and if they do offer accelerated education. Although many haven’t heard of them until 2013 when, “President Obama indicated the prominence of charter schools in his State of the Union address when he called for creating more of them” (Pitre 1). Thus charters have been a current topic that plenty of politicians have been discussing for the last few years. U.S Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has “’characterized charter schools as one of the most profound changes in education’” (Pitre 1). Although charters may be changing the education system in a good way in the government’s eyes, some parents express differently. Thus some adults, say how do charters help the communities if they are forcing failing schools to close, but the charters are failing as well. Although this is true for some areas in the country, but not all charters are bad, just like the public schools in their area. Just as public schools have struggles, charters as well have the same struggles of trying to be the best–achieving schools. Finn gives us a great example “some of the country’s highest-achieving schools are charters, but so are some of the worst” (6). The closing of failing public schools is also due to low amount of funding by the government. Most of the funding cuts are happening because schools are losing children to other
