The proposal is, on a case-by-case basis, to allow undocumented immigrants who have lived in the United States for a sufficient period of time to obtain a provisional citizenship. Opponents of Obama’s proposal may argue that such action will only spur more illegal immigration; they rely on misconceptions that are far from the truth. Illegal immigration mainly occurs due to the lengthy process required to legally obtain citizenship. Attempting to eliminate all illegal immigrants immediately will do more harm than it will help! Furthermore, the resources used to fund such a project could be used to fund actual reform to the policies or relief for the immigrants. A more holistic and individualized approach, as suggested by President Obama, is a more feasible and effective
